FORGIVING AND SEEKING FORGIVENESS ARE TWO FROM GREAT

 

TRAITS OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (Peace be upon him )

Forgiving some one for a mistake or insulting behavior is a real tough task but seeking forgiveness for

a committed mistake or after conducting a bad behavior to a friend ,colleague or relative is another

big task indeed ;since it involves self – status, ego and sometimes being powerful or having some kind

of supremacy or upper hand over the victim makes it impossible ,like a tough nut to break.

Psychologists and spiritual Gurus treat both the victim and the committer of mistake equally or at

least one of them the victim , vulnerable to worst mental pressure and in need of a treatment. The

victim takes the insult and suffers a humiliation and keeps reminding his self and cursing and abusing

the insulter every time he sees him or think of the incident. On the other hand the offender keeps

repenting for the mistake done and does’nt feel proper for his position or status and does’nt muster

guts to reach the victim and apologise for the mistake done. The teachings of Islam require both to

come out of their shell and forgive the offendor and for offendor it teaches to go ,console the victim

and seek his forgiveness or the least both are advised to seek forgiveness from Allah (st)

 

One great example is the narration from the young companion and servant of Prophet Mohammad

(pbuh) that Once Prophet asked Anas(RA) to go to some distant place to pass the message of

Prophet.The Anas said,’By God ! I swear, I shall not go there or I shall never go to him.” And walked

off. After a while Prophet came out of the house and was walking through an street and he saw Anas

standing there watching children of his age playing some game. Prophet did not yell upon him he did

not spank him ,but came close and put his both hands on the shoulder of Anas (RA) When Anas

looked up in surprise he found Prophet smiling and said,”so, you did’nt go there.” The Anas says,”I

felt so much guilty that I removed his hands from my shoulders and said,” Oh Prophet I shall go there

right now. And went to attend the task.

Every thing was set straight in a fraction of seconds. If we analyze the incident. It is so simple to be

bothered but ;The situation otherwise would have been taken many options ; Like Prophet yelling

and Anas yelling back I shall not go. I shall not go Or Prophet beating him and Anas crying for help OR

Prophet running around Anas to catch and beat him Or Anas deciding to leave the service of Prophet

or worst he taken a decision to run out of town to escape from Prophet . But Anas knew he is my

mentor who loves me so much so that he has never said a harsh word for my mistakes and spoils if I

did any.

This is what is to be remembered at the bad moments we face in offices, schools, Home and with

relatives and friends. Not That how dare he said.” So and so words to me, I shall never see his face”.

How dare he did such an insulting act against me, I shall see to it that he is insulted in public and loses

all his face value. The Ayas (domestic helps) and poor labors to be given margin since they are not

much educated and not brought –up the way we want them to be. We have to bear the pangs of their

innocence and ignorance and trained them lovingly to our required standards.

Once Peophet said to his companions ,”That so and so person is surely the dweller of Paradise after

death”. One of the companion of Prophet went to that lucky man’s house and requested for the

shelter for few days. He happily showed him the place for rest and treated him gently. On the third

day the forced guest informed his humble host ,”Brother to be honest ,I came here to see what is the

special prayer or Tsbihaat (zikr ) that you do that Prophet (sa) has forecasted Paradize for you ? but

don’t mind ,I didn’t notice any special act of your that exalts your position among us. The hmble guest

informed that I am also surprised to hear this good news and I do nothing special indeed and after a

thought full sigh he said,” Prophet once said,” Before going to bed /sleep ,Forgive every one who did

any big or small misconduct against you during the day and ask for pardon on the first available

chance or do good to; whom you happen to willingly or unwillingly harm or hurt during the day .” I

have taken that lesson for granted and I do that without fail’. The forced guest thanked him for the

lesson and became his partner in practicing that good trait of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh).

Our life inside the home and out side on the road, transport, work place , in gatherings of celebrations

and death demand vocal and physical acts where- in we please or hurt our companions and these are

in fact reflections of attitude, circumstances and duties towards self, family, community and country

we value more than the victim or beneficiary. Some times we help and support our country man

 

against the foreigner. Or pass derogatory remarks to a less educated or poor or some one from other

clan ,cast or religion .This all leads to create good or bad vibes against us.

The increase of bad vibes will make things bad for us.The problems meet us at every corner and in

every walk of life and in every task we undertake.We become victim of tension, headache ,diseases ,

amxiety . The life becomes a burden rather an enjoyment and tranquility. On the otherhand good

vibes of people whom we served food while he was hungry or provided clothes when he was shivering

in cold or offered some cash to sustain his life and family or excused for a blunderous mistake or

offence will make things easy.The otherwise tough or impossible tasks will be easily done by getting

unexpected help from some one in power or getting a lost document in the last moment or

remembering the correct answer while writing an exam.Life will be easy like and environment at

home,office and around coleagues will be cosy and comfortable. It all looks against the teachings of

Islam. How can people’s vibes control our lives. But it is true .It is not people but Allah (st) who orders

the things to happen as per our thoughts and behavior .We have to see what we do is a pleasing act

for Allah or displeasing and results will come that way. Prophet (sa) once said,” Allah will set upon you

the bad rulers and masters if your conduct is against the teachings of Prophet and against the orders

of Allah (st) and vice-versa.
